Housing
How to meet state new housing requirements without massively impacting land areas: ADU's
Gentle Growth That Preserves Our Character
Why ADUs Matter for Yucaipa
• Add housing on existing lots — no need for big new developments that eat up open space or change our neighborhoods.
• Perfect for District 1: Supports larger-lot RL/RS areas while helping multigenerational families, seniors, and caregivers.
• Already allowed citywide in residential zones with streamlined, pre-reviewed plans from the City.
• Expand pre-approved ADU designs tailored to Yucaipa’s rural and suburban character.
• Explore fee incentives and fast-track permitting to make them more affordable.
• Launch education workshops and outreach — especially in District 1 — so more families can benefit.
• Ensure strong safety standards (code-compliant units improve neighborhood security).
The Result: Stronger families, preserved open spaces, and Yucaipa’s character protected — while responsibly meeting state requirements.
“Gentle Growth for a Stronger Yucaipa”
My Plan as Your District 1 Council Member
Chelsea Brammer-Ramirez — Public Safety #1 • Family-Friendly • Small “town” Culture First
As your council member, I will:
Hi, I’m Chelsea Brammer-Ramirez, running for District 1 City Council. One of the biggest challenges we face is balancing housing needs with protecting what makes Yucaipa special — our open spaces, larger lots, and family-friendly neighborhoods.
Yucaipa already has strong rules allowing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) — backyard homes or additions — across all residential zones, including right here in District 1. The city even offers pre-reviewed plans to make the process faster and cheaper.
But we can do better.
Right now, awareness is low, costs can be a barrier, and not enough families are taking advantage. ADUs are the smart solution: They add housing without sprawling into our hills or changing the character of our communities.
-
Expand pre-approved designs that match Yucaipa’s style — think safe, attractive units that fit larger lots.
-
Push for targeted incentives like fee relief to make them accessible for working families and seniors.
-
Host workshops and outreach right here in District 1 so residents know how easy and beneficial this can be.
-
Always prioritize public safety — ensuring every ADU meets strong code standards that enhance, not strain, our neighborhoods.

This is gentle growth that supports stronger families and multigenerational living while preserving the open spaces and character we all love. It’s practical leadership that meets state rules without sacrificing our values. I’d appreciate your support — let’s keep Yucaipa safe, family-friendly, and true to itself.
I will champion an enhanced ADU program to provide gentle, infill housing that preserves Yucaipa’s open spaces and larger-lot character. Priorities include: expanding pre-reviewed plans with designs suited to RL/RS zones, exploring fee waivers/incentives for qualifying units, targeted outreach in North Bench, Wildwood and Dunlap, and ensuring all ADUs meet high safety and design standards.
